4 Bottle Wine Racks

Most of us really don't need to store more than four bottles of wine at a time. In terms of keeping the "emergency beverage kit", though, a boss of mine once impressed upon me that everyone needs to have a bottle of champagne handy in case they suddenly need to celebrate wild and wonderful good news. And its a good idea to have a nice white wine, and perhaps two nice reds on hand. If you're into dessert wines or something more exotic, you'd want to cut one of those bottles of red and replace it with whatever makes you happy. But I digress. On to the wine racks, please.

4 Bottle Target Wine Racks

Why do these ALL have leaves or tendrils? Prices range from $35 to $99. There are three that can sit on the countertop, and one that hangs from the wall (sadly, its the $99 one). None of them are really worth buying. You could definitely break the four bottle rule, though, and go with the very nice 5-Bottle Under Cabinet Wine Rack for $25. It will save space, and its a nice platinum/silver color. Totally understated, but affordable, space-saving, and effective. You could do worse.

4 Bottle Amazon Wine Racks

For countertops, you've got the 17½ x 6¾x 4¾ 4 Bottle Matte Black Stacking Wine Rack, which is kind of boring but will only set you back $18. The Oenophilia Table Tendril 4-Bottle Copper Wine Rack is maybe more interesting, but also more expensive at $56, and seems like its trying a bit too hard to be creative. If you want something "cute" the Vineholders Collection 4 Bottle Wall-mounted Rack makes the wine bottles look like hanging grapes, and comes with the wine vine tendrils and leaves. For me, the only thing I'd buy for a countertop is the Metrokane Houdini Expandable Wine Rack. Its $17, looks very James Bond, and actually folds flat for "travel".

For wall mounted racks, the 4 Bottle Urban Wall Wine Rack looks very cool, but it also looks like even the slightest nudge might send one of your bottles to the floor. I wouldn't get it. And at $40, its expensive enough that it should be a clear win or its a clear skip. Actually, too many of the four bottle racks out there look seriously tippy. There are quite a few tower-like designs for countertop storage that has these very small footprints. Unless you've got one of these things wedged in a tight space, its going to fall over. Besides, four bottles is easily light enough to be wall-mounted, so let's make the best use of that coveted counterspace for only the things that have to be there.

Bed Bath and Beyond and EWineRacks

At this point I'm starting to see some of the same wine racks for sale at all these places, but there are some nice exceptions. Like the very nice Oenophilia Nolita Wine Rack. Its a mere $10, mounts under a cabinet, and hold four bottles securely. It is green... that could be a plus or a minus for you. Still, it looks very modern and cool.

If you're really tight on space, but you can hang things from the ceiling, the Enclume Hanging Wine Rack is a nice idea, and well executed, but I have to recommend you keep looking -- its $215! EWineRacks has a similar item called the "Ceiling or Wall Mount Wooden Wine Rack" that's only $80. Its not quite as nice, but it'll do just fine. If you're going to spend over a hundred dollars, get the Milano Espresso Wall Wine Rack from EWineRacks.com... its $125 and truly beautiful. It is wall mounted, about 45 inches high, and elegant enough to kind of look like a piece of sculpture on its own. According to the reviews, other people are as wooed by it as I am.
